That may be true of certain species of woods like Pine but not of others. Woods like Spanish Cedar and Honduran Mahogany resist rot as they breathe out moisture. <BR/><BR/>If all wood rotted as fast as you say then there would be no wooden exterior doors or windows out there. Wood siding would be falling off left and right. Unfortunately there are a few companies out there that do mass produce exterior shutters out of Pine with weak joinery methods and they do tend to fall apart in about 7 to 10 years.
